WARRIORS COME UP BIG IN STATE MEETS
-
After a great 2023 indoor season, Warriors athletes competed for their respective high schools and had exceptional outdoor seasons. Of the 29 athletes who completed the indoor season with the Warriors, 21 qualified for either the Missouri Class 2,3,4 or 5A state meets or the Illinois state meet earning 19 medals. To no one's surprise, Senior Adam Snoke (Lutheran South) and Junior Alia VandenBrink (Collegiate) had the best individual performances. Snoke, who will be attending the University of Tennessee on a track scholarship finished 2nd in the Class 3 800 and 3rd in the 1600. He later anchored the 7th place 4 x 400 team. Overcome by heat in the 4 x 400 he collapsed with 100 meters to go but somehow got to his feet and finished so that his teammates could get medals. Alia, who already has several Division 1 scholarship offers, continued a great career with 2nd place in the Class 4 100 and 200 meter events with a strong PR in the 200. Ladue sophomore Karina Griffin helped her Ladue team win the 4 x 400 Class 5 relay. She also earned a 6th place medal in the 800. Her cousin, Colin Griffin, a sophomore at DeSmet, grabbed 3rd place in the 4A 300 meter hurdles. MICDS senior Julia Ray, another Tennessee signee, finished 3rd in the 3200 and 6th in the 1600. Rounding out the Missouri individual medalists were: Lucy Luetkemeyer (Metro) 6th in the 3A 3200; Lily Dow, 4th in the 2A 400; and Zeke Samking (LSO) 6th in 3A 400. Other relay medalists were Alex Cattor (Chaminade) 8th in the 4 x 800; Samking and Brenton Hickerson 7th in the 3A 4 x 400. Other qualifiers included Corbin Cole and Colton Richardson of Webster, Andrew Snoke (LUSO), Justin Terry (Desmet), Reese Schelp (LUSO), Jessie Beaumont (Kirkwood), and Katelynn Karsten (LUSO).

On the Illinois side of the river, Charles Shaw (East St. Louis Charter, Class 1) led the way with 3rd in the 100 meters and 5th in the 200. Teammate Justin Spiller earned a 5th place medal in the 110 meter hurdles and Madison’s Steve Moore anchored a 2nd place finish in the 4 x 200.
